April 9, 2024College Station ISD has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education for the fifth year in a row. Now in its 25th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate the outstanding achievement of providing music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, CSISD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

“Music education in CSISD continues to be an impactful resource for our students to learn new skills, express their creativity and be a part of a thriving community of talented musicians and educators,” said Eric Eaks, director of fine arts. “CSISD students consistently perform at the highest level in state contests and qualify for national competitions. We are proud to have received this distinction and look forward to the continued success of our music programs.”

CSISD currently has 5,715 elementary students participating in music classes, 836 intermediate through high school students in orchestra, 1,004 intermediate through high school students in band, 451 intermediate through high school students in choir and 676 intermediate through high school students taking general music classes.
