Mike Martindale was named Superintendent by the CSISD Board of Trustees at its meeting on April 21, 2020, after serving as Interim Superintendent the previous three months.
In his relatively short time as the district’s superintendent, he has led district through a strategic planning process and in November 2021, the community approved more than $78 million in bonds for renovations and technology. In addition, the voters of CSISD approved a Tax Ratification Election in November 2022 to substantially increase teacher and staff pay.
College Station ISD is partnering with The Holdsworth Center, an Austin-based nonprofit, to strengthen its bench of great aspiring principals and support the superintendent’s leadership through two programs – the Holdsworth Leadership Collaborative and the Superintendent Leadership Program.
Martindale was named superintendent just as the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning. His leadership efforts during this time resulted in CSISD schools being one of the largest district’s in Texas to open its doors for in-person learning in August of 2019, while also providing a viable online option for those who were not comfortable attending.
Prior to being named superintendent, he was the district’s deputy superintendent and CFO, beginning in January 2016. Martindale was the first principal at College Station High School and was responsible for the opening of the school in 2012. He was hired by CSISD in 2007 as the principal of Rock Prairie Elementary.
Martindale has 32 years of experience in public education with nine years of central office experience, including his tenure as deputy superintendent and CFO in CSISD and serving as Superintendent of Schools in Florence ISD and Director of Secondary Education in Angleton ISD.
Additionally, he has sixteen total years of principal experience from Angleton ISD, Barbers Hill ISD, and College Station ISD, where he has served at the elementary, intermediate, and high school levels.
He began his career in education as a math teacher at Angleton High School in 1991.
A 1991 graduate of Texas A&M University, Martindale earned his Bachelor of Science with teaching certifications in math and physical education. In 1996, he earned his Master’s of Education in Administration from the University of Houston - Clear Lake. In 2005, he received his Superintendent’s Certification from the University of Houston - Victoria.
Martindale and his wife Alicia, who is a Spanish teacher at College Station High School, have two children. His daughter Ava is a senior and his son Cooper is a sophomore, both at College Station High School.
