Serve on a CSISD Committee

VOLUNTEER FOR A DISTRICTWIDE COMMITTEE

Aside from volunteering at schools, there are several opportunities for community members and parents to become actively involved with the CSISD educational system. CSISD has multiple committees and opportunities for parents and community members to help the administration and school board shape the direction of the district.

The following is a list of opportunities parents and community members have to get involved. If you are interested in serving on one of the committees below, please fill out the brief application located here:

Please note, there is a not a place on the application to specify a committee. Filling out the application simply lets us know you are willing to sit on one of the committees below.

COMMITTEES

The following are committees that are formed each year with varying lengths for terms of service.

  • DEIC: The Districtwide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) advises the Board or its designee in establishing and reviewing the district's educational goals, objectives, and major districtwide classroom instructional programs identified by the Board.
  • SHAC: The School Health Advisory Committee is a group of individuals representing segments of the community to provide advice to the district on coordinated school health programming and its impact on student health and learning. The SHAC will assist the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district's health education instruction.
  • Head Start Policy Council: Policy Council is a required component of the Head Start governance regulations. The organization of the Policy Council must be comprised of at least 51% elected parents, with community representatives selected by the council for the remaining seats. Membership on the council is limited to three years. The purpose of Policy Council (PC) is to provide a formal means for parents to be involved in College Station Head Start program planning and decision making.

SPECIALLY-CALLED COMMITTEES

The following committees are only formed by the Board of Trustees when necessary.

  • Rezoning: As a rapidly-growing school district, CSISD has built several schools within the last few and - if approved by the voters - is likely to build more in the near future. Each time new schools are built, attendance zones must be redrawn to allow students to attend the new schools. Members of this committee will be asked to consider the entirety of CSISD, and not just their particular neighborhood. In conjunction with district administration, this committee develops recommended attendance zones to present to the board. The board ultimately adopts the final attendance zones.
  • Planning for Growth: As CSISD enrollment continues to increase, so does the need for facilities and infrastructure. The Planning for Growth Committee is called when the board is contemplating calling a bond election in order to build schools and purchase large capital items. This committee studies CSISD enrollment trends and projections and makes recommendations to the board as to what buildings and capital projects are needed by the district. The recommendation is presented to the board, which ultimately decides to call a bond election and what is to be included on it.
