Superintendent of Schools Mike Martindale will recommend Dr. Stormy Hickman as Executive Director of Elementary Education and Josh Symank as the Director of Human Resources to the Board of Trustees at its May 17, 2022 meeting.
Hickman, alongside the district’s Executive Director of Secondary Education, will lead the curriculum and instruction department. Current Chief Academic Officer Dr. Penny Tramel is leaving CSISD to work in another district.
“Stormy has a tremendous understanding of elementary education and is an energetic leader,” Martindale said. “We have seen the benefits of having an executive director lead our secondary campuses, and Stormy will have the same opportunity to make an immediate impact with our elementary campuses.”
For the last three years, Hickman has served as the district’s Director of Talent Management. Prior to that, Hickman was the principal at Spring Creek Elementary from 2015 to 2019. She also served in administrative roles with stints as an assistant principal at both A&M Consolidated High School and Greens Prairie Elementary.
She holds a Bachelor’s of English degree from Texas A&M University (2000), a Master’s of Educational Leadership (2011) and Doctorate of Educational Leadership (2022), both from Lamar University.
With Symank’s transition to serve as the Director of Human Resources, the district will move from two directors in the human resources department to one director and an assistant director. This change is in conjunction with the promotion of Hickman and the departure of the Director of Employee Engagement, Dr. Nkrumah Dixon. The assistant director position will be filled at a later date.
“Josh is ready to take the next step in school district leadership,” Martindale said. “He is very organized, straight-forward and has a great ability to build relationships. I have confidence in Josh’s ability to recruit and help retain high-quality educators, which is currently an emphasis across the state and nation.”
Symank has been the principal of Oakwood Intermediate since 2015. Previously, he served in campus assistant principal roles at Pebble Creek Elementary and College Station Middle School.
He has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University (2006) and a Master’s of Education in Administration from Sam Houston State (2008).
