May 13, 2024–CSISD held its annual Employee Awards in honor of district retirees and employees nominated by each campus May 9 at Grace Bible Church Creekside.
Through a partnership with the CSISD Education Foundation, Daniel Stark Law served as the Title Sponsor for the event, providing monetary awards to all 79 district nominees.
Guests and honorees were greeted with performances by A&M Consolidated High School and College Station High School orchestra students and treated to refreshments made by CSISD’s child nutrition department. Student council members from CSISD schools served refreshments and assisted with setting up the event. Decorations for the event were created by the College Station High School floral design team.
Retirees’ and award nominees’ names were announced as Dr. Tim Harkrider, superintendent of schools, individually thanked them for their dedicated and service with a commemorative plaque.
Dr. Tim Harkrider, superintendent of schools, honors Carolyn Wilson from Pecan Trail Intermediate School as the 2023-2024 Auxiliary Employee of the Year.
Carolyn Wilson from Pecan Trail Intermediate School was named CSISD’s 2023-2024 Auxiliary Employee of the Year.
“It started out as a job to pay my bills, but turned into a place that I call home and have made some of my closest friendships and consider many people family,” said Wilson. I love building relationships with the staff and their children and watching them grow and mature as they walk through the halls. Coming to work each day doesn’t seem like a job, I think of it as keeping all my friends and the children safe. CSISD has changed my life for the better.”
Dr. Tim Harkrider, superintendent of schools, honors Erin Golden from A&M Consolidated Middle School as the 2023-2024 Paraprofessional of the Year.
Erin Golden from A&M Consolidated Middle School was named CSISD’s 2023-2024 Paraprofessional of the Year.
“Honestly, I welcome the daily chaos of waking up to teachers calling in sick, scrambling to fill substitute spots, and coordinating class coverage,” said Golden. “The commitment to serving others without expecting anything in return is a core value my parents instilled in me. This principle is the driving force behind why working in CSISD holds such profound significance for me. It’s truly an honor to give back and serve in the school district that once served me.”
Dr. Tim Harkrider, superintendent of schools, honors Terri Barnett from Rock Prairie Elementary School as the 2023-2024 Professional of the Year.
Terri Barnett from Rock Prairie Elementary School was named CSISD’s 2023-2024 Professional of the Year.
“I view education as a key component to success for all people,” said Barnett. “Regardless of your background, abilities, or desires, learning is a necessary component to moving forward. Instilling this belief in others is my ultimate goal. Reminding those around me that each person has the right, and the ability to grow on a continual basis, will forever be a driving force in my life.”
Dr. Tim Harkrider, superintendent of schools, honors Riley Dickson from Forest Ridge Elementary School as the 2023-2024 Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Riley Dickson from Forest Ridge Elementary School was named CSISD’s 2023-2024 Elementary Teacher of the Year.
“I am still a fairly young teacher and do not claim to have mastered every or any aspect of teaching, but I care deeply for the children I serve,” said Dickson. “The teaching I do is driven by my concern for each student’s wellbeing and development. When we care about the children in our classes, we set a precedent for ourselves to provide the best for each of them. For me, this means a commitment to bettering myself and utilizing the most appropriate learning experiences for them.”
Dr. Tim Harkrider, superintendent of schools, honors Jessica Silva from Wellborn Middle School as the 2023-2024 Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Jessica Silva from Wellborn Middle School was named CSISD’s 2023-2024 Secondary Teacher of the Year.
“Teachers give guidance to their students,” said Silva. “We help students realize their potential and set them up for future success. We give them a sense of purpose and we inspire them to do well beyond the classroom. We offer stability and comfort to our students and act as a support system when it is absent in a student’s life. As teachers, we expose students to new ideas and information, we simplify the abstract to facilitate learning, and we teach the curriculum. I can’t think of any other vocation that has such an important impact on society including past, present and future.”
Employee of the Year honorees are selected annually by campus principals for their unwavering service to their school and going above and beyond to ensure all students have every opportunity to be successful.
“Throughout this school year, our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that our students have the best possible educational environment for learning,” said Dr. Tim Harkrider, superintendent of schools. “The continual efforts of our teachers and staff are monumental, and words are inadequate to fully describe the deep appreciation I have for our entire CSISD family’s commitment to our students. I am grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our phenomenal employees, and am honored to serve alongside each and every one, because I know that together we are committed to success for each life, each day, each hour.”
The following retirees, auxiliary employees, paraprofessionals, professional employees, elementary teachers and secondary teachers were recognized at the 2023-2024 Employee Awards:
