AMCHS Swim wins district title

Jan. 27, 2024–The A&M Consolidated High School boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams claimed the District 21-5A team titles at the district meet held on Jan. 26 at the Magnolia Aquatic Center.


AMCHS Girls Swim Team
The A&M Consolidated High School girls’ swimming and diving team won the District 21-5A team championship, winning the title with a total of 167 points.

The Tiger girls’ team tallied 167 points to outdistance Montgomery (112), Montgomery Lake Creek (93), Magnolia (71), Magnolia West (48) and Brenham (18), while the boys’ team totaled 150 points to beat Lake Creek (123), Magnolia (81), Montgomery (70), Brenham (43) and Magnolia West (30).

 

Tiger head coach, Jenny Marquardt, was named the 21-5A Girls’ Team Coach of the Meet, while junior Katherine Rasmussen was honored as the 21-5A Girls’ Swimmer of the Meet, and junior Eve Nelson was named the 21-5A Girls’ Diver of the Meet.

 

Rasmussen, who also earned 21-5A Swimmer of the Meet honors as a freshman, earned victories in the 200 IM (2:10.99) and the 100 backstroke (57.35), while also leading off the Tigers’ winning 200 medley relay and anchoring the runner-up 200 freestyle relay.

 

Other Tiger girls earning individual wins were Nelson in the 1-meter springboard dive with a score of 445.66, freshman Ariana Larsen in the 100 butterfly in 59.74 and freshman Brooklyn Poole in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:06.78. Rasmussen teamed with Sam Poole, Sammy Shankar and Mackenzie O’Donnell for the 200 medley win. The runner-up 200 free relay consisted of Sam Poole, Shankar, Larsen and Rasmussen, while the Tigers’ second-place 400 relay was Sam Poole, O’Donnell, Larsen and Brooklyn Poole.

AMCHS Boys Team

The A&M Consolidated High School boys’ swimming and diving team won the District 21-5A team championship, winning the title with a total of 150 points.

Two Tigers boys earned individual titles with senior Ian Lindberg touching first in the 200 free (1:47.44) and 100 back (53.48) and sophomore Neal Pang winning the 200 IM (2:01.63) and 100 breast (1:00.48). The Tiger boys earned a pair of relay silver medals with Garett Gammill, Tyler Lingo, Kolby Martin and Jaden Kwok finishing second in 200 free relay and Kwok, Gammill, Will Peacock and Lindberg taking runner-up honors in the 400 free relay.

 

Combined, the Tigers earned 37 individual swims and advanced five relays to the upcoming Regional Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held Feb. 9-10 at the Student Recreation Natatorium at Texas A&M.
