CSISD Board calls bond election for May 4


Feb. 7, 2024The CSISD Board of Trustees approved calling a bond election for May 4, 2024, during a special workshop on Feb. 7. The $53,470,000 bond package, as recommended by a community long-range facilities and bond planning committee, is anticipated to meet the needs for CSISD to make additions and renovations to existing high school athletic facilities.

The committee consisted of 37 members with a variety of perspectives including: parents, civic leaders, educators, volunteers, retirees and CSISD alumni. The committee met for two weeks in January to develop a recommendation that:

  • considers the educational and co-curricular needs of all students;
  • provides a solution for renovations and additions to existing facilities;
  • ensures support for a well-rounded education experience for all students;
  • reflects community values and perceptions of needs; and
  • is fiscally sound.

The long-range planning committee presented a bond package recommendation for the following district needs:

  • Additions and renovations to the existing A&M Consolidated High School athletic stadium and field house and existing College Station High School athletic stadium ($40,200,000), including:
  • A&M Consolidated High School field house
    • expanding and renovating the weight room;
    • relocating coaches’ offices;
    • a new and enlarged sports medicine area;
    • additions and renovations of locker rooms;
    • two new classrooms;
    • upgrades to the interior finish including paint and flooring;
    • site improvements due to the expansion for access between the weight room and baseball field; 
  • A&M Consolidated High School athletic stadium
    • expanding seating capacity from 5,238 to 6,300;
    • resurfacing of the track;
    • adding turf to one of the “D-zones”;
    • rebuilding the press box, restrooms and concessions stands as one structure;
    • renovating the home and visitor entrances;
    • rebuilding the home and visitor ticket booths;
    • a new scoreboard;
  • College Station High School athletic stadium
    • expanding seating capacity from 4,573 to 6,300;
    • resurfacing of the track;
    •  adding turf to one of the “D-zones”;
    •  adding restrooms;
    •  repairing the press box;
    •  repairing concrete due to excessive heaving; and
    •  a new scoreboard.
  •   Renovations to the existing A&M Consolidated High School baseball/softball stadiums and existing College Station High School baseball/softball stadiums ($13,270,000), including:
  • All four baseball/softball stadiums
    •  converting the grass playing surface to artificial turf;
    •  installing LED lights;
  •  A&M Consolidated High School softball stadium
    •  expanding seating;
    • renovating the press box and ticket booth; and
    • modifying sidewalks and parking to accommodate improvements.

Based on estimates provided by Hilltop Securities, the district’s financial advisor, it is estimated the full $53,470,000 could be funded within the original $.02 increase projected for the November 2023 election. It is estimated that these projects will not increase the tax rate.
