In addition to providing tremendous atmosphere at the football games, the A&M Consolidated High School and College Station High School marching bands had banner years in their respective contest seasons.

Most notably, both bands earned superior ratings from all three judges at the UIL Marching contest, but that was just the tip of the iceberg.

On November 10, the A&M Consolidated marching band finished its season at the US Band's Western Band Championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.  The band finished in first place in their division, including winning first in color guard and in percussion.

The College Station marching band ended its competitive season at the Waller Invitational Marching Contest on October 27.  The Cougar Band was awarded first place in both the prelims and finals and was named the overall grand champion of the contest.  In addition, the Cougar Band won caption awards for best music, best marching, best percussion and best guard at the event.

The CSHS band is directed by Eric Eaks and the AMCHS band is directed by Steve Fry.

This success did not come easy.  According to Fry and Eaks, the bands begin practicing at the end of July and have each put in well over 200 hours of rehearsal time. In addition, many of the contests were held on Saturdays after arriving home late from Friday-night football games.

Eaks and Fry are quick to heap praise on all the band teachers in the district, parent supporters and the entire CSISD community.

“There is no way we could be this successful without all of them,” Eaks said.

CSISD assistant directors are Noelle Adams (Pecan Trail), Travis Barney (Oakwood), Jessica Delgado (CSHS), Michael Dixon (WMS), Greg Montgomery (CSMS), Kelly Montgomery (Cypress Grove), Hope Mulholland (AMCHS), Jon Seale (CSHS), Kristen Seale (WMS), Zane Taylor (CSMS), Ross Weckesser (AMCMS), Matt Wood (AMCHS) and Lesley Zorn (AMCMS).
